Aston Villa announced on Monday that Jonathan Kodjia had officially left the club to join Al Gharafa on a permanent deal.
The 30-year-old, who has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with the Qatari club, scored 31 times in 106 appearances during his time with Villa.
The striker has also contributed two goals in nine appearances for Dean Smith’s side this term but has now been deemed surplus to requirements.
The decision to sell Kodjia is perhaps a touch surprising when Wesley has been ruled out for the remainder of the season due to a knee injury.
And some of the Villa fans did not react well to the confirmed exit.
Others, though, can seemingly understand why the forward has been allowed to leave Villa Park during the January transfer window.
Kodjia failed to score in his six Premier League appearances during the 2019-20 campaign, with his only goals coming in the EFL Cup against Liverpool, who sent a shadow side onto the field due to their involvement in the Club World Cup.
Red Herring or Real Hero: Only hardcore Villa fans will get all of them right….
It will now be very interesting to see what happens at Villa between now and the end of the January transfer window as surely business will have to take place if the club are to secure another campaign of Premier League football.
Meanwhile, Villa continue to be linked with a swoop for this international midfielder ahead of the transfer deadline.
